Notable mainly for featuring David Soul  (ex Starsky and Hutch for oldsters) in one of the lead roles, together with Janie Lee – this was originally at the Watermill theatre and is at the Criterion until mid July or so.  This has a small cast of actor/musicians and is  Jerry Herman's teary love story set in the era of silent films and illuminates the relationship of director Mack Sennett, (creator of the Keystone Cops )  and comedienne Mabel Normand. When Normand arrives on Sennett's film set, he spots her and falls in love with her. Together they go on to do wonderful movie magic , though the relationship between them doesn’t turn out to be what Sennett dreams. Soul was last in the West End playing Jerry Springer the talk show host in the controversial Jerry Springer The Opera.
