The Lion King

After reading other reviews round the web, I spotted that Lion King the Musical had recieved lots of bad ones, I looked at images and it looked brill, so I decided to go and see for myself. If your considering going then let me tell you, you won’t be let down.

So anyhow I went to the theatre expecting nothing apart from a poor show. But the prejudiced reviews on here were shortly crushed… What a wonderful show.

From the instant the Rafiki starts singing, to the curtains close for the final time. Who’d have thought the Lion King could become a stage show. Each scene is well put together and draws you into the tale. Having seen the film years back, when I used to be a little one, I wondered how some scene’s would be portrayed onto a stage, but the producers of this show have done a positively wonderful job, and I was dumbfounded a number of times at how they’d done this.Scar and Simba

Conclusion

The costumes were extraordinary. Some songs were haunting, some songs were funny, all songs were brilliant. I couldn’t fault the performance in any fashion. A must see!

Mamma Mia!

Not something I was anticipating in all truth, I did not enjoy the film at all to be honest. But from the instant it started I believed, this should be very different.

It was brilliant, funny, I didn’t stop giggling, word perfect, superb voices, great dancing. The boys were brilliant, the girls were superb dancers. The show overall was top class principally because of the story line and songs. I was barely unhappy with was the views on stage, which didn’t represent the show’s repertation.

Conclusion

Stage show is miles better than the film, all of the actor had great voices and the portraying of the tale was of a high calibre. Though there weren’t any named stars in the production this didn’t downplay a great perfomance.

The Wizard of OZ

If you’re keen On the Wizard of Oz on film you’ll undeniably enjoy the stage version too. Red Shoes Blues sung by Hannah Waddingham as the Wicked Witch of the West is among the highlights, and a new song with words by Tim Rice : “She’s pretty, she’s clueless and I want her shoeless”. Only Andrew Lloyd Webber could deliver such a superb adaption of the hottest film in history.

Even the tiniest gaffe in judgment might have turned such a challenge into a tragedy, but this production delivers all the picture offers and more. What modifications were required to persuade it to work on stage appeared sophisticated, but were much more complicated than what it appeared. The effects were miraculous. The film’s musical score was only boosted, and the new additions only made it better. Michael Crawford as Professor Marvel was brilliant. Never once did he try to over-play the job. Danielle Hope was really better than Garland. This is Webber’s new Phantom. It’s likely to run for seventy five years in London and NY.

Totally adored The Wizard of Oz – a must see for fans of the first film as the musical actually sticks to the tale everyone knows and love. Great casting and a powerful set. Toto was fun to look at and “acted” brilliantly. A genuine feel good experience!
